BuzzFeed News reports that Twitter is making telecommuting permanent for some of its employees, even after the pandemic dies down. I’ve been successfully telecommuting for the past month, and even though I don’t commute very far to my office at HostGator, I’m hoping the same treatment is extended to those of us who can work virtually. Nearly all of our meetings have a videoconference thanks to Google Meet, and a VPN (virtual private network) allows me to contact in-house systems for software development, project management and documentation. I’ve now got my own standing desk in a shared office with my fiancée, and am waiting on delivery of an additional monitor and monitor arms to mount additional screen real estate.

Telecommuting is also better for my health: Rather than be tempted by all the snacks available in our break room, I can stick to my weight loss plan (thanks Mindy!) and continue to enjoy the delicious lunches Sharon cooks for us. I’ve lost 11.6 pounds this year so far, and am looking forward to continued success.
